Meeting Minutes

The January meeting of the USSVI-Dallas Base was called to order at Spring Creek Barbeque Restaurant in Addison, TX January 7, 2012 by Dallas Base Commander Stan Miller at 12:02 PM. Present were the following members and guests: Members: Maurice Barksdale, Doug Burleson, Gerald Burnham, Charlie Cloud, Tim Davis, Jerry Edwards, Peter Filidoro, Doug Gallagher, Barbara Harrelson, Jim Harrelson, Ron Jansen, Jim Kennedy, Marv Koch, James Lucas, Paul McAlister, George McDermott, Denise Miller, Stan Miller, Frank Morgan, Jeff Morris, John Reynolds, Mike Snyder, Jo Lynn Standerfer, Wayne Standerfer, Tony Whitley and Gavin Wolff. Guests: Debi Cole, Sam Cole, Mary Koch, Connie McAlister, Gloria Morgan, Sue Morris and Whitney Wolff. A moment of silence was observed to remember our Shipmates who made the supreme sacrifice. The Invocation was given by: Maurice Barksdale. The Submariner’s Creed was read by: Stan Miller. Stan Miller then read the names of the Boats on Eternal Patrol for the month of January while Charlie Cloud tolled the bell. The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by: Marv Koch Binnacle List: January Birthdays: Eddie Griffith, Mike Snyder, Phil Burkett, Maurice Barksdale, Tim Davis, Joseph Bays, James Doonan, Daniel Boylen, Kirk Counard, John Barber and Ken Ballard. Committee Reports: · Treasurer’s Report: Charlie Cloud presented the Treasurer’s report for December. The report was approved as presented. · Membership: Stan Miller reiterated, that National and Base dues must be paid by January 31st. Members not paying their National dues by then will be dropped from USSVI and will have to reapply for membership. Members are encouraged to wear their Submarine related attire as a recruiting tool. · Storekeeper: Stan Miller reported that due to Doc Polen’s health he has been relieved as Storekeeper. With the exception of calendars and vest the Base Store is closed until a new Storekeeper is appointed. Anyone interested in being Storekeeper should contact the Base Commander. · Base Bylaws: Wayne Standerfer discussed the proposed changes to the Base Bylaws, which were previously emailed to members. A motion was made, seconded and passed to approve the changes to the Base Bylaws. The changes will be forwarded to the District Commander for his approval and then on to the Regional Commander for his approval. · Girl Scout Cookie Fundraiser: This year’s cookie distribution fundraiser will be at the same warehouse as last year and will start at 7:00 AM each day. The Base has committed to work Saturday February 11th, Sunday February 12th and Thursday February 16th. Volunteers are need for all three days a signup sheet is available or contact Wayne Standerfer directly. · Future Joint Quarterly meetings with the Cowtown Base and WWII Veterans: As the membership ages more members are having difficulties with the stairs at the Oasis Restaurant and a new location is needed. Stan Miller reported he received a lot of positive feedback regarding the location of the Joint Quarterly meeting held at Dave & Buster's in Arlington. Presently this year’s Joint Quarterly meetings are scheduled for Dave & Busters. The Base is still looking at other locations for the Joint meetings. · Submarine Birthday Party: The Base discussed having a Dallas Base Submarine Birthday Party, again this year. It would be on April 14th. Members should contact Stan Miller with their ideas. · Base Veteran’s Day Float: The bunting on the trailer has deteriorated and needs to be replaced. Wayne Standerfer will form and head up a committee to come up with ideas and cost estimates to update the float. · Next meeting will be the Joint Quarterly meeting on Saturday February 4, 2012 at Dave & Buster's in Arlington. · This year the Base will alternate regular monthly (non joint) meetings between the Spring Creek restaurants in Addison and South Dallas. 50/50 Drawing: was won by Mary Whitley for $53.00
