The  February  meeting of the USSVI-Dallas was called to order at The Oasis Restaurant on Joe Pool Lake on  February 2, 2008 by Dallas Base Commander Wayne Standerfer at  12:06 pm.
Present were the following members and guests:
Dallas Base: John Barber; Bill Bozarth; Gerald Bringle; Charles Cloud; Walt Eller; Peter Filidoro; Moody Forgey; Eddie Griffith; James Harrelson; Ron Jansen; Marvin Koch; James Lucas; Don McClane; Thomas McCutcheon; Stan Miller; Frank Morgan; Jeff Morris; Ivan Nicodemus;; Richard Ost; Daniel Ottinger; Mel Polen; Dennis Reese; Leonard Reneau; Michael Snyder; Wayne Standerfer; Robert Wigman and Frederick Williams.
Cowtown Base: Roy Ator; Walton Eller; James Fox; Frank Havlak; Les Hewett; Harvey Layman; and Richard Nelson.

Charlie Cloud led the Pledge of Allegiance and Mel Polen gave the invocation. Wayne Standerfer read the Submariner's Creed, and then read the names of the WWII boats lost in December while Charlie Cloud tolled the bell.

INTRODUCTION OF WWII VETERANS

Commander Standerfer asked all World War II veterans to stand and introduce themselves as well as provide any other information they desired.

CERTIFICATE PRESENTATIONS

Vice Commander Stan Miller introduced the new Holland Club members and presented them with a certificate:

  • James Harrelson

  • Leonard Reneau

  • Wayne Standerfer

Congratulations to all.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The following announcements were made:

  • Girl Scout cookie information was again provided and volunteers solicited. The cookie distribution is Feb 22, 23 & 25.

  • New location and time for the regular Dallas Base meetings is still in progress.

  • Frank Morgan explained the Dallas Base Memorial Scholarship in memory of Bill Coffey.

  • Packing for the troops was completed and 61 boxes were sent to Iraq.

  • Marv presented the committee report for the convention.  He asked for volunteers to canvas a one to two block area in Ft Worth to see if possible vendors or businesses would like to contribute to the convention.  A meeting was held after the regular meeting for those volunteering.

GUEST SPEAKER

  • Les Hewett
    Les talked to us about his experiences on his first war patrol.  It was very interesting and entertaining.
    We hope to have Les back to again entertain us and provide details of his other war patrols.

50/50 was won by:  Mel Polen.

The Spring Creek BBQ Certificate was won by:  Mike Snyder.

The business meeting concluded at 2:00 pm.

Next meeting – Wednesday, March 5th
at
VFW Post 7411, 7111 Mohawk Dr., Dallas.
Meeting will begin at 1900.
