The March meeting of the USSVI-Dallas was called to order at The Love Field VFW Post #7471 March 5, 2008 by Dallas Base Commander Wayne Standerfer at  7:00 pm.

Present were the following members:
John Barber; Bill Bozarth; Carl Byler; Charlie Cloud; Peter Filidoro; Mark Holland; Ron Jansen; Marv Koch; James Lucas; George McDermott; Stan Miller;
Frank Morgan; Jeff Morris; Ivan Nicodemus; Daniel Ottinger; Leonard Reneau; Michael Snyder;
Wayne Standerfer and Leonard Tunnell.

Leonard Reneau led the Pledge of Allegiance and Charlie Cloud gave the invocation. Wayne Standerfer read the Submariner's Creed, and then read the names of the WWII boats lost in December while Charlie Cloud tolled the bell.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

  • Treasurer's Report: Charlie Cloud presented the report for the month of February.

  • Membership: Stan Miller brought us up to date on membership recruitment

  • Storekeeper: Mel Polen was not present at this time.

  • Convention: Marv Koch and Jeff Morris gave us an update on convention progress and handed out the convention advertisement from the center section of the next American Submariner Magazine

  • Scholarship Committee: Frank Morgan informed us that we had one (1) request for a Scholarship Application as of this meeting date. (Update-we now have two application request)

OLD BUSINESS:

1.  New meeting locations were discussed and it was decided to try different locations and have the members discuss each of
    
them as to their likes and dislikes during the following meeting.

2.  We only have (3) members that have not paid their 2008 dues.

3.  Results of the Girl Scout distribution fund raiser was discussed and again the emphasis was placed on getting more volunteers.

4.  Guest speakers are needed and anyone who could help with that was encouraged to give the name to the Base Commander.

NEW BUSINESS:

1.   A Base Donation Program for our members was discussed.  A separate email will be sent to all members detailing the program.

2.   There will not be a Yard Sale and Summer Picnic this year unless someone volunteers to have them.

3.   New lightweight flag holders will be purchased for future meetings.

         4.   The proposed amendment to the USSVI Constitution was discussed involving time requirements for Holland Club Membership.
               The 5 year start over was especially discussed.

         5.   The USO Youth Book Collection for DFW Airport was discussed by Charlie Cloud.  See Charlie for details.

         6.   Commander Standerfer asked for a volunteer to chair the entertainment committee.  No volunteers were immediately identified.

 

GOOD OF THE ORDER

1.  The thank you letter from the National Commander was read by Commander Standerfer concerning our donation back in November
     to the Charitable Foundation's San Diego fire Fund and the Caring and Sharing Fund

2. The combined SVWWII and USSVI Western Region conference was cancelled due to lack of registration.

3. Floyd Matthews, the oldest member of USSVI (105 yrs old) of Florence, AL departed on Eternal Patrol Sunday, February 24th.
    Commander Standerfer stated that this may make Jerry Bringle the oldest member

 

The 50/50 was won by: Peter Filidoro
 

The business meeting concluded at 7:46 pm.
