The March meeting of the USSVI-Dallas Base was called to order at Spring Creek Barbeque Restaurant in Addison, TX on April 4, 2009 by Dallas Base Commander Wayne Standerfer at 12:03PM.

Present were the following members and guests:

Members: Rob Althaus, Ken Ballard, Charlie Cloud, Tim Davis, James Doonan, Jim Fox, Doug Gallagher, John Hazen, Ron Jansen, Marv Koch, James Lucas, Don McClane, Tom McCutcheon, Stan Miller, Frank Morgan, Jeff Morris, Mart Nurmet, Mel Polen, Leonard Reneau, John Reynolds, Wayne Standerfer, Donald Thieme and Leonard Tunnell.

Guests: Neil Cloud, Char Doonan, Lynda Fox, Mary Koch, Brandon Koch, Patti McLane, Jean McCutcheon, Gloria Morgan, Jo Lynn Standerfer and Linda Tunnell.

A moment of silence was observed to remember our Shipmates who made the supreme sacrifice.

The Invocation was given by Mel Polen.

The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Charlie Cloud.

The Submariner’s Creed was read by Wayne Standerfer.

Wayne Standerfer then read the names of the Boats on Eternal Patrol for the month of February while Charlie Cloud tolled the bell.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

• Secretary: Peter Filidoro was not present due to illness, so the March minutes were not read.

• Treasurer’s Report: Charlie Cloud presented the Treasurer’s report for March. The report was approved as presented

• Membership: Stan Miller announced that USSVI has made three new base recruiting posters available. An example of each one was shown and discussed as to where to hang them in order to be the most effective.

• Storekeeper:  Mel Polen gave a report on ship store items. He announced the mugs that we have been purchasing were going to have an increase in price due to the gold that is used in the coating.

• Scholarship: Frank Morgan reported that he has provided application packets to 6 candidates. But none had been returned as of this date.

OLD BUSINESS:

• Packing for Troops: The packing party will be April 25th, 1500 to 1800 at Fred & Derla Maphis’s home. Announced that we can not send any aerosol cans. Charlie Cloud gave a report on his success in obtaining items from friends and local businesses All information is on our base website.
   

• 2009 Base Christmas Party: Will be December 6th at Lawry's The Prime Rib. All the details are on our base website.

NEW BUSINESS:

• Base Newsletter Articles: Wayne Standerfer asked all members to submit any articles or information they think would be of interest to Donna Williams for publication in our quarterly newsletter.
  

• 2009 USSVI Membership Stickers: 2009 membership card stickers are available for anyone that wishes to update their card.

• Base Phone Chain: Wayne Standerfer announced that we will be forming a phone chain to contact our base members that do not attend meetings. He will be asking for phone volunteers at the June meeting.

  GOOD OF THE ORDER

• District 4 Conference: The Conference was cancelled due to lack of interest

• Nominations for District 4 Commander: Are being taken now through April 15^th. Any one who wants to run for District 4 Commander needs to get their name, into the Regional Director, Carl Schmidt, with a statement indicating, they will assume the duties of District 4 Commander if elected.

SPEAKER

• No speaker - Used this time to discuss any suggested improvements to the way our base is operated.

The 50/50 was won by: Tim Davis.
Tim donated the money back to our Base Scholarship Fund.

The Benediction was given by Mel Polen

The meeting was adjourned at 1:15 PM which was followed by a barbeque lunch for the ones that wished to stay
