·         Treasurer’s Report: Charlie Cloud presented the Treasurer’s report for February. The report was approved as presented.

·         Membership: Stan Miller stressed that, as a recruiting tool, we should wear some type of submarine paraphernalia when going out and if possible have business cards. So that we can make contact with other non-USSVI submarine veterans.

·         Storekeeper:  Mel Polen was unable to attend the meeting, no report given.

Old Business:

·         Base Phone Chain (Sea Daddy Program): 4 members volunteered at the last meeting. There are still 4 more phone lists that volunteers are need for. Volunteers came forward during the meeting to take on all 4 remaining lists.

 New Business

·         USS Dallas Junior Sailor of the Year Award: Will be Monday November 9th.

·         Parade Banner: The Base has purchased a new double-sided Parade Banner for $65. A thank you goes to Leonard Reneau who paid for the banner.

·         Greater Dallas Veterans Foundation: This organization puts on the Dallas Veterans Day Parade. The Base has contributed $100 in past years to this organization; the consensus of members is to contribute $100 this year.

·         September meeting: A motion was made, seconded and passed to cancel the September meeting. Due to the fact that Base members attending the USSVI national convention will be traveling to San Diego on the first Saturday in September.

 Good of the Order

·         American Submariner Magazine: Is having delivery problems with members who move around during the year. If a member’s magazine is returned by the Post Office, to USSVI twice the member will no longer be sent the magazine. In order to provide room for additional articles in the magazine and not increase cost, the list of Holland Club members and Life members will no longer be included. These lists will be published online at the USSVI website. Also the National Officer’s columns will be consolidated in to one column.

·         Holland Club and Base Challenge Coins: The Holland Club has a Challenge Coin, it is $12.00 for one coin, 2 or more coins are $10.00 each. There was discussion for having a Base Challenge Coin. The consensus of the members is we should pursue this. Wayne Standerfer will be looking in to this.

·         Subvettes: Ladies Purse Hangers with Silver or Gold Dolphins are being sold as a fundraiser. The large size is $15; the small size is $9. The purchase can designate $1 to go to either the USSVI Charitable Foundation or the Kaps for Kids program.

·         Fredericksburg Road Trip: The Base is in the process of organizing a bus trip to Fredericksburg, TX in the October - November time frame. The Base can charter a 36 passenger bus for a two day trip, for $1,475.37. The cost per person is $41.00, if all 36 seats are filled. Those interested in taking this trip should contact Wayne Standerfer.

·         Next meeting: The combined Dallas and Cowtown Base meeting will be at 12 noon, August 1st at the Oasis Restaurant on Joe Pool Lake.

·         Bank balance: The bank statements indicate we have an overage of $1,015.44 in the Base bank account. The overage occurred during the transfers made to and from the Base account for the 2008 convention and or when money was being collected and disbursed for the Cavalla hurricane relief. The Treasurer will make a Journal entry to balance the account.

·         Jim Fox announced that the Cowtown Base is selling Flags and Flag Poles as a fundraiser. The pole is a 16 foot 3 section aluminum pole with a 3 by 5 flag.

·         Stan Miller has volunteered to run the Kaps for Kids program for the Base.

·         Maurice Barksdale thanked the Base members for the support provided him and his wife, Fay during her recent illness.
