The June meeting of the USSVI-Dallas Base was called to order at Spring Creek Barbeque Restaurant at I-20 & West Wheatland Road, Dallas, TX June 4, 2011 by Dallas Base Commander Stan Miller at 12:01 PM.

Present were the following members and guests:

Dallas Base Members: Jerry Bringle, Carl Byler, Tim Davis, Jerry Edwards, Evan Evans, Peter Filidoro, Doug Gallagher, Ron Jansen, Marvin Koch, Jerry Larson, Stan Miller, Frank Morgan, Jeff Morris, Mel Polen, Dennis Reese, Leonard Reneau, Wayne Standerfer, Leonard Tunnell, Tony Whitley and Gavin Wolff.

Guests: Joan Larson, Colin Reese, De De Reneau and Whitney Wolff.

The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by: Ron Jansen.

A moment of silence was observed to remember our Shipmates who made the supreme sacrifice.

The Invocation was given by: Mel Polen.

The Submariner’s Creed was read by: Stan Miller.

Stan Miller then read the names of the Boats on Eternal Patrol for the month of May.

Holland Club Induction:

·         Base Commander, Stan Miller presented Jerry Larson with his Holland Club award.

June Birthdays: Gerald Burnham, Margita Euler, Chet Hilyer, Kyle Tipton and Richard Maddox.

Committee Reports

·         Treasurer’s Report: Charlie Cloud, Base Treasurer was unable to attend the meeting, the Base Commander read the May report prepared by Charlie. The report was approved as presented.

·         Membership: Stan Miller reported that the Base now has 113 members.

·         Storekeeper: Mel Polen reported the he still has 2 license plate holders. Stan Miller reported that Bob La Bonte is having Dallas Base stickers made up.  The price of the stickers will be determined when they become available, part of the proceeds will go to the Base. 

·         Base Scholarship: Frank Morgan reported, that there was nothing new to report.

Old Business:

·         Base/USSVI Websites: old pictures of members from their Navy days and a recent picture are still needed for the website rosters. Members should send their pictures to Wayne Standerfer and he will post them to the website.

·         Memorial Day at Lone Star Park: All members who attended the event had a good time. The racetrack provided the Base with a suite and buffet dinner. During the opening ceremonies each Subvet was introduced to the public. Fred Maphis has written a thank you letter that will be sent to the Vice President at the racetrack.

New Business:

·         Central Region District 4 Commander election: Ballots need to be returned to the Base Commander by July 10. There is one candidate, Tom Williams on the ballot. Write in votes are acceptable, with the permission of the write in candidate who must write a letter indicating they will accept the position if elected.

·         Base Picnic: The Elks club, where the picnic was held last year, has Saturday September 17th and 24th available for the picnic. Selection of the date will be voted on at the next meeting.

·         Base and USSVI Dues: The Base Commander reminded everyone that Base and National dues are due by the end of December.

·          Kaps for Kids: Gavin Wolff chairman for the Base’s Kaps for Kids program discussed the program, provided detail information and instruction on how to conduct a visit.

·         A motion was made, seconded and passed to donate $1,000 to the Cavalla Historical Foundation.

Good of the Order:

·         The next Dallas Base March meeting will be at 12:00 noon, Saturday, July 9th at Spring Creek Barbeque at I-20 & West Wheatland Road, Dallas, TX 75237.

50/50 Drawing: was won by Doug Gallagher for $45.

Benediction: was given by Mel Polen.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:58 PM
