The August Joint meeting of the USSVI-Dallas and Cowtown Bases was called to order at The Oasis Restaurant at Joe Pool Lake August 1, 2009 by Dallas Base Commander Wayne Standerfer at 12:05 PM.

Present were the following members and guests:

A moment of silence was observed to remember our Shipmates who made the supreme sacrifice.

The Invocation was given by: Mel Polen.

The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by: Peter Filidoro.

The Submariner’s Creed was read by: Wayne Standerfer.

Wayne Standerfer then read the names of the Boats on Eternal Patrol for the month of August while Charlie Cloud tolled the bell.

World War II Subvets were asked to stand so they could be recognized for their service.

 August Birthdays: Allen Gibson, Dale Godboldo, Andy Groome, Wallace Horton, Forrest Jeter, Stan Miller, John Mills, Gil Raynor, Dennis Reese, Tom Studebaker, Robert Wigman, and Fred Williams.

September Birthdays: Rob Althaus, Jim Fox, Colin Reese and Harry Whipple.

Announcements

• The Base is now accepting nominations for the 2010 Base Officers. Names need to be submitted to Frank Morgan. The candidate’s names will be announced at the October meeting, the election will take place at the November meeting.

• Base Constitution and Updated Bylaws should be ready by the Base Officer election. A proposed changed to the Bylaws is to have the term of the Base Officers increased to two years.

• Holland Club Challenge Coins are now available for Holland Club members the cost is $10 each and they are available through the Base Storekeeper, Mel Polen.

•  Kaps 4 Kids: The initial order of hats, were adult size hats that were mislabeled as youth size. This is causing a delay while we wait for the correct size hats. Volunteers are needed to help present these Kaps. Each kid will receive a cap, certificate and picture of the USS Dallas.

• A motion was made, seconded and passed to donate $500 to the Groton Base for the Thanksgiving Dinner fund.

Guest Speaker: Eddie Griffith who was to speak about one of his WWII war patrols, could not attend due to illness.

Good of the order:

• Dallas Base will not have a meeting in September. The next meeting will be Saturday, October 3^rd at 12:00 Noon at Spring Creek Barbeque 2827 West Wheatland Road @ I 20 Dallas.
