Dallas Base Commander Leonard Tunnell called the September meeting of the USSVI-Dallas Base to order at VFW Love Field Memorial Post 7411 on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at 1900. Present were the following members and guests: Charlie Cloud, Leonard Tunnell, Frank Morgan, Andy Massimino, Mel Polen, Wayne Standerfer, Peter Filidoro, John Barber, Marv & Mary Koch, Len Reneau, Stan Miller, Dan Ottinger, Jeff Morris, Fred Maphis, Bill Bozarth, Carl Byler and Ron Jansen. Mel Polen gave the invocation and Dan Ottinger led the Pledge of Allegiance. Leonard Tunnell read the Submariner's Creed, and then read the names of the WWII and other boats lost in September while Charlie Cloud tolled the bell. GUEST SPEAKER
The guest speaker was Jena Perkins, a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. COMMITTEE REPORTS Treasurer's Report: Charlie Cloud presented the August report, which was approved by the members. Membership: Marv Koch passed out cards containing information on prospective members. Storekeeper: Mel Polen gave a report on the store. Convention: Jeff Morris and Marv Koch gave an update on the Convention planning.
OLD BUSINESS: - There will be a Yard Sale in October at Jeff & Sue Morris’s house. The proceeds from the sale will be loaned to the 2008 Convention.
- Mary sold tickets for a drawing for a gift certificate to the Purple Cow. Tickets will again be sold at the October meeting and at the November Oasis meeting. Drawing will be held at the November meeting.
NEW BUSINESS: Frank Morgan reported that we have a full slate of candidates for 2008 Base Officers. Nominations are still being taken. The election will be held at the Oasis meeting in November. We have begun collecting dues for 2008. Please try to have your Base and National dues paid by December 31st.
