The November meeting of the USSVI- Combined meeting was called to order at The Oasis Restaurant at Joe Pool Lake, Saturday, November 3, 2007 by Dallas Base Commander Leonard Tunnell Jr. at 1200. 

Present were the following members and guests:

Leonard & Linda Tunnell, Wayne & Jo Lynn Standerfer, Ron Jansen, Charlie Cloud, Frank Morgan, Fred & Derla Maphis, Mel Polen, Jeff Morris & Sue Morris, Marv & Mary Koch, Eula Plummer, Jim & Lynda Fox, John & Kathy Barber, Peter Filidoro, Stan Miller, Carl Byler, Mark & Connie Holland, Bill Bozarth, Maurice Barksdale, Rob Althaus, Leonard & Dawn Reneau, Bill & Shirley Rice, Ivan and Marilyn Nicodemus, Tom and Jean McCutcheon, David Boe, Gerald Bringle, Moody & Donna Forgey, Don & Patti McClane, Dan Ottinger, Walt Eller, Eddie Griffith, Les Hewitt, and Frank Havlak.

Chaplain Mel Polen gave the invocation and Frank Havlak led the Pledge of Allegiance. Leonard Tunnell read the Submariner's Creed, and then read the names of the WWII and other boats lost in May while Charlie Cloud tolled the bell.

INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS

The guests were introduced and the WWII SubVets stood and were honored.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

·        The Veterans Day ceremony at Sea Wolf Park will be held Sunday, November 11 at 1300. The plaque designating the USS Stewart as a National Historic Site will be presented after the ceremony.

·        The Cavalla Historical Foundation annual board meeting will be held Saturday, December 8. That weekend is also the work weekend.

·        Shipmate Art Randall has been diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer and Shipmate Wiley Davis has suffered a stroke.

·        The USSVI has a web site that you can access to update your member information. The URL is http://www.ussvi.us/Documents/Online_Manuals_Update_your_USSVI_Member_Record.pdf

·        Golden Corral has designated Monday, November 12 from 5 to 9 p.m. to honor all Veterans. Veterans will received a free meal.

·        WWII Veterans can obtain a copy of the Patrol Reports of their boats. Send an email John Clear, EMC(SS) ret, at webmaster@usssealion.com telling him which boat(s) and what time periods and John will see that he (or his family) will get them.

GUEST SPEAKER

The guest speaker for this meeting was Stephen L. Moore, author of the book Spadefish.

Jo Lynn Standerfer won the 50/50 drawing and Peter Filidoro won the gift certificates to the Purple Cow.

Next meeting – Wednesday, January 9th
at
VFW Post 7411, 7111 Mohawk Dr., Dallas.
Meeting will begin at 1900.
