USSVI-Dallas Base Combined Meeting

The November meeting of the USSVI-Dallas Base was called to order at The Oasis Restaurant at Joe Pool Lake November 5, 2011 by Dallas Base Commander, Stan Miller at 10:47 AM.

Present were the following members and guests:

Members: Ken Ballard, Joe Bays, Doug Burleson, Gerald Burnham, Charlie Cloud, Tim Davis, Peter Filidoro, Doug Gallagher, Andy Groome, Marv Koch, Jerry Larson, James Lucas, Paul McAlister, Tom McCutcheon, George McDermott, Denise Miller, Stan Miller, Frank Morgan, Dan Ottinger, John Reynolds, Jo Lynn Standerfer, Wayne Standerfer, Robert Wigman, Donna Williams, Fred Williams and Gavin Wolff.

Guests:  Don Hahn, Gloria Hahn, Joyce Bays, Joyce Beaubien, Debi Cole, Sam Cole, Mary Koch, Joan Larson, Cathy Lucas, Connie McAlister and Jean McCutcheon.

The Invocation was given by: Gavin Wolff.

2012 Base Officer Election:

·         The only Candidates for office are the incumbents in each position. A motion was made, seconded and approved to elect the slate of Candidates running. The 2012 Base Officers are: Base Commander, Stan Miller; Vice Commander, Jim Lucas; Treasurer, Charlie Cloud; Secretary, Peter Filidoro.

 Old Business:

·         Kaps 4 Kids: Chairman Gavin Wolff reported that a visit was made to Children’s Medical in September with 4 Base members in attendance. The next opportunity for a visit will be between Christmas and New Years or after New Years. Anyone interested in participating should let Gavin or the Base Commander know.

·         Veterans Day Parade: The Base will again be participating in the Dallas Veterans Day Parade. Members wanting to participate should let the Base Commander or Wayne Standerfer know and assemble at the parade site at 9:00 AM on November 11th.  The Silent Service Motorcycle club will also be participating.

·         Christmas Party: Menus and RSVP forms have been emailed to members. The information is also available on the Base’s website. Members should RVSP as soon as possible.

·         Jerry Bringle Junior Sailor to the Year Award: The USS Dallas is on deployment and the Junior Sailor of the Year will not be available for an award presentation. Once we find out who was named The Dallas Jr. Sailor of the Year the award plaque and gift card will be sent to him.

·         National and Base dues: are due by December 31st. Member who has not paid their due by December 31st will be placed on the inactive list and drop from USSVI if dues are not paid by January 31st.

·         Next Base meeting will be January 7th, 2012.

·         Girl Scout Cookie distribution: will be in February.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:03 AM.

 The meeting was reconvened at 12: 02 PM as the November joint meeting of the USSVI-Dallas and Cowtown bases.

 A moment of silence was observed to remember our Shipmates who made the supreme sacrifice.

The Invocation was given by: Gavin Wolff.

The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by: Jim Lucas

 The Submariner’s Creed was read by: Stan Miller.

Stan Miller then read the names of the Boats on Eternal Patrol for the months of November and December while Charlie Cloud tolled the bell.

Announcements:

·         Dallas Base Commander, Stan Miller made the following announcements.

o   The Base will be discussing a donation for the Submarine Service plaque at the Navy Memorial at the next couple of meetings.

o   As we have done for previous conventions, the Base will be have a full-page ad in the Convention Program for 2012 USSVI Convention in Norfolk.

o   Proposed changes to the Base bylaws will be emailed to members in November. Members should review the changes they will be voted on at the January meeting.

Guest Speaker:

·         John Reynolds introduced Don Hahn who served on the USS Raton (SS270) in the South China Seas during WWII. Don spoke about his experiences during WWII.

 The meeting was adjourned at 12:28 PM for Lunch.

 The meeting was reconvened at 12:48 PM
