The November meeting of the USSVI-Dallas Base was called to order at The Oasis Restaurant at Joe Pool Lake, Saturday, November 3, 2007 by Dallas Base Commander Leonard Tunnell Jr. at 1030. Present were the following members and guests: Leonard & Linda Tunnell, Wayne & Jo Lynn Standerfer, Ron Jansen, Charlie Cloud, Frank Morgan, Fred & Derla Maphis, Mel Polen, Jeff Morris & Sue Morris, Marv & Mary Koch, Eula Plummer, Jim & Lynda Fox, John & Kathy Barber, Peter Filidoro, Stan Miller, Carl Byler, Mark & Connie Holland, Bill Bozarth, Maurice Barksdale, Rob Althaus, Leonard & Dawn Reneau, Bill & Shirley Rice, Ivan and Marilyn Nicodemus, Tom and Jean McCutcheon, David Boe, Gerald Bringle, Moody & Donna Forgey, Don & Patti McClane, and Dan Ottinger. The Invocation, Pledge and Tolling of the Boats were held for the Combined Meeting which begins at 1200. REPORTS Treasurer’s Report – Charlie Cloud presented the October report, which was approved by the members.
Membership – Marv Koch had no membership report.
Storekeeper – Mel Polen gave a report on the stores.
Convention – Marv Koch reported that Fort Worth, Inc. presented the Convention Committee with a check for $15,000.00 for the Convention.
OLD BUSINESS The members unanimously elected the 2008 Base Officers as follows:
Base Commander – Wayne Standerfer, Vice Commander – Stan Miller, Treasurer – Charlie Cloud, Secretary – John Barber.
The Base made $700.00 on the recent yard sale. This will be loaned to the Convention.
We have 21 signed up for the Christmas Party at this time.
The Base will collect items to ship to Afghanistan for the Troops. We will have a “packing party” sometime in January. Items can be brought to the Christmas Party and the January Base meeting.
Girl Scout Cookies – Please notify Wayne Standerfer as to which days you can work. Information is on the Base website.
NEW BUSINESS · The members voted to postpone the January Base meeting to Wednesday, January 9th due to the College football games around the first. · The members voted to donate $500.00 to the Charitable Foundation for the “San Diego Fire Fund”. · The members voted to donate $500.00 to the Charitable Foundation for the “Caring and Sharing” program. · National has suggested that all members donate $10.00 per year to the Charitable Foundation. · The Dallas Veterans Day parade will be November 10. The annual Gerald Bringle Award will be presented at the staging area prior to the Parade.
GOOD OF THE ORDER · Dallas Base was named Second Runner-up for the 2007 Newsletter of the Year award. · Dallas Base was named Winner of the 2007 Website of the Year. A certificate was presented to Wayne Standerfer, Webmaster. · Wayne Standerfer reported that he had talked to Shipmate Jim Harrelson. Jim is doing better, but still has problems. The meeting was adjourned at 1115.
