The Dallas Base of the U.S. Submarine Veterans, Inc. has adopted a scholarship assistance program to help qualified sons, daughters, grandchildren and nephews/nieces of active members of the Dallas Base in furthering their education.

The award will be $1000.00 for the academic year and will normally be granted in memoriam to a deceased member of the Dallas Base. For this academic year, there will be up to three scholarships awarded. See the enclosed biography of the member being honored this year.

Scholarship Requirements
  1. Son/Daughter, Grandson/Granddaughter or Nephew/Niece of Dallas Base member.
  2. High school senior, recent high school graduate or student currently enrolled in college or vocational school.
  3. Applicant will be required to validate scholastic proficiency.
  4. Obtain scholarship assistance application from USSVI Dallas Base member.
  5. Complete and submit application form and necessary attachments by April 30, 2012.
  6. The winning applicant will be required to mail an appreciation letter to the surviving family member of the honoree.
    The Dallas Base will furnish the name and address.
Application Process

1. Submit completed application to Dallas Base Scholarship Committee by April 30, 2012 along with the following;

  • A 250 word essay - see the last page of the application form
  • Two (2) letters of reference from non-relatives.
  • An official high school transcript for years completed.
  • A copy of your ETS (Educational Testing Service) SAT transcript.
  • Letter of Acceptance from an accredited college or vocational school.

2. College or Vocational students will submit all of the above, plus:

  • An official transcript of semesters completed.

Review Process by Scholarship Committee


Scholarship Committee will consist of three or more Dallas Base members appointed by the Dallas Base Commander.

  1. Receive and check submissions for authenticity.
  2. Review and discuss all submissions and attachments.
  3. Determine finalists.
  4. Conduct in person interviews with finalists if necessary.
  5. Report results and recommendations to Base Commander.
  6. Dallas Base Commander makes final decision.
  7. Winning applicant will be notified by mail no later then June 15, 2012.
  8. Scholarship Assistance Check will be mailed to School.
