Dallas Base Sea Stories

Sea Story 1

Now this ain't no shit. A couple of us were returning to the boat, the George Washington (SSBN598) in Holy Loch, when we happened upon a fist fight on the pier. One of my shipmates, an IC3, was 'duking' it out with someone on the tender. Since there was quite a crowd, a couple of us stayed just to make sure it stayed between the two of them. About three days into our patrol, I found out that our shipmate that got into the fight was the person who picked up all the movies for the patrol. The man from the tender he fought was the man that doled out the movies. We got the crap of the crop. Most of the movies was of 1934-1939 vintage. The worst started out with a Road Runner cartoon. Two movies were decent: "Who is afraid of Virginia Wolf" and "Mary Poppins. We saw each of these about 12 times. It was strange to see a first class torpedoman walking down the passageway humming "Chim Chim Cheree" or a Machinist Mate singing "Supercalifrajalisticexpialidocious". After all these years, I still know the words. Ron Jansen-1968
